As regards choosing a resume format, choose a simple format. You have several resume format templates in MS word.  Select the best one.

Do not select fancy font types which are difficult to read. The ideal font could be Times New Roman with 12 font size. Avoid writing about race, religion and marital status.  Also avoid salary expectations and do not attach your photograph.Next, you can present your resume either in a chronological or functional order.

It is better to present your qualifications and experience in a chronological order.  Any other additional information about you, could be presented only as per the requirements of the job in question. Do not present unrelated information which may not be of any use to the employer.

In sum, write a crisp, clear, and concise resume which should try to grab the attention of your employer. After all, every employer would love to recruit an employee who fits in with its culture, working style and requirements of the company.  If you strictly observe the above points, you are already on your way to writing an effective and winning resume!
